The most common generator accessories include automatic transfer switches.  As their name suggests, these switches detect power outages, and automatically send a signal to your generator to turn it on. Perhaps the biggest advantage of installing an automatic transfer switch is that you don’t have to be there to turn on your generator.  Depending on the make, model and size of the generator, your generator can turn itself on in as little as 10 seconds after an outage is detected.

Another popular generator accessory is an auxiliary fuel tank.  Diesel generators need diesel fuel to work, so it makes sense that you would want a back up supply on hand.
