Moving Mountains For Our Customers Has New Meaning
Customer service has always been at the core of what we do at Total Energy Solutions. Our motto of ‘Service Beyond All Expectations”; however, was put to the test during a recent generator installation in Punta Arenas, Chile.
Spartan Energy Partners contacted us needing a backup power solution for one of their Amine plants that sits on the “Ring of Fire”; an arc of volcanoes and fault lines that circle the Pacific Ocean. This plant treats natural gas coming from the ground in order to make it a useable product to sell.
After working with them to determine their exact needs, we provided a 1 mW Waukesha Natural Gas Generator and assisted them with its installation.
We arrived in Chile on September 5th, 2015 after several delays due to an airline strike, and worked with Spartan Energy Partners’ team over 12 days to move the generator 2.5 hours up into the Andes Mountains to their location.
Then, on September 16th, 2015, the day prior to the scheduled project completion, an 8.3 magnitude earthquake struck about 34 miles west of Illapel, Chile.
“Everything shook for several minutes. I’ve never felt anything like that before. I was nervous.” said Kevin Bachhofer – Generator Installation Technician.
Local news reported that the earthquake caused at least five deaths, with 95% of a nearby town losing power. The locals are no strangers to earthquakes. Since 1973. Chile has had more than a dozen earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater. A large part of the reason why Spartan Energy Partners needed the 1 mW generator we were there the install for them.
Despite the unique challenges this project presented, our team pushed on and completed the generator installation on time, redefining what it means when we “move mountains” for our customers.
